Cavs off-season preview: NBA title odds soar with bettors… What’s next?

Photos courtesy of Cavs
The NBA off-season is here; the draft is tonight and expectations for the Cavs have improved without a single trade or pick being made.
Oddsmakers at FanDuel rate Cleveland the favorites to win the Eastern Conference and the second likeliest team to take the NBA title.
An Achilles injury to Tyrese Halliburton in the Pacers’ Game 7 loss to the Thunder makes it likely that he misses most or the entire 2025-2026 season. Ditto for the Celtics’ Jayson Tatum and Bucks’ Damian Lillard, who both suffered the same injury.
So, the East is wide-open, and the Cavs face will look to improve – but what can they do?
Internal growth: The team is banking on Evan Mobley eventually surpassing Donovan Mitchell as its best player. DeAndre Hunter will have an off-season to fit in. Last year’s top pick, Jaylon Tyson, will get time in the rotation.
Draft: The Cavs have two second-round picks — unlikely to help much.
Trades: The Cavs’ salary structure handicaps trades, but Kobe Altman is aggressive and could move Darius Garland or Jarrett Allen if opportunity arises. Or trade Isaac Okoro and Dean Wade to shed salary if he finds takers. Potential targets: Herb Jones and Trey Murphy III (Pelicans), Dorian-Finney Smith (Lakers), Cam Johnson (Nets). The team has five second-round picks through 2028 and a 2031 first-round pick to offer in trades.
Free agency: The team can only sign minimum salary players. The Cavs will try to re-sign Ty Jerome and Sam Merrill.

First look: Rewind Diner brings 1950s to Brooklyn

Photos by John Petkovic
Rewind Diner turns the clock back to the 1950s when the American diner was in its glory.
Located in the old Steve’s Diner space in Brooklyn’s Biddulph Plaza, the retro-style eatery will serve a slice of Americana and classic comfort food.
You got it, daddy-o: omelets, milkshakes, smash burgers, pancakes to go with local-themed offerings like the Smoked Kielbasa Breakfast.
Rewind also rolls out some nostalgic sides – the non-food kind, in the form of a checkered floor, retro countertop and red stools, old-timey napkin dispensers and kitschy signage that recalls another era.
"From the food to the ambiance, we’ve put a lot of work into making Rewind feel like an authentic 50s dining experience,” says CRMG’s Martin Moran, in a statement.
On Friday, we reported on CRMG’s growing empire, which announced two new eateries in Legacy Village – the Legacy and EVOO. Rewind strikes a very different note – one that was first played 70 years ago. Hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
Cordelia fans rejoice: New eatery coming to Hingetown

Photos by John Petkovic (Cordelia exteriors) and courtesy Cordelia, Vinnie Cimino
Vinnie Cimino has had a busy June. The Cordelia has spent the month collaborating with Swenson’s – which started with Cimino working as a curb-server at Swensons West Akron.
The month isn’t even over and Beard-nominated chef whose ‘modern grandma’ cuisine has turned Cordelia into an East Fourth hit is already working on a new idea.
Cimino and his partner Andrew Watts are planning to open a new eatery in the former Alea space on Church Avenue in Hingetown.
“We’ve got something cookin’. Coming Fall 2025,” says Cimino. More info coming.

Cleveland musician joins Smashing Pumpkins leader for tour
Billy Corgan and The Machines of God will feature a familiar face when they hit House of Blues – 6:30 tonight… Well, aside from the Smashing Pumpkins leader. Jenna Fournier (a.k.a. the singer and guitarist in Niights and Kid Tigrrr) will be playing bass for the band’s “A Return to Zero” tour, which focuses the Pumpkins’ “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” and “Machina/The Machines of God” album. Bring on the drag queens, kitsch, camp and trash!
It's a double-dose of kitschy, campy titillation… What a way to countdown the end of Pride Month. At 7:30 tonight, the Capitol Theatre will screen John Waters’ trash-cinema classic “Female Trouble” (starring Divine) as part of its WTF Wednesday series. At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, it hosts Dungeons and Drag Queens – featuring a gaggle of performing, competing queens and AJA from Rupaul’s Drag Race. Attendees are urged to don costumes. Info here.

Hello, Jolly’s: Pizza pub opens in iconic Barking Spider space
The Barking Spider felt like a cozy ski lodge -- that is, until the poets and folk band took the stage and inspired flashbacks to the hippie ‘60s.
Jolly’s Pizza & Pub strikes a very different tone. The pizzeria has just opened in the University Circle carriage that housed the iconic Spider for decades.
Like its sister locations in North Royalton and Strongsville, it rolls out its 12-inch, Sicilian and four-piece ‘nostalgic’ pies – as well as wings, desserts, beer, wine and cocktails.
“We’re serving up our famous pies in this legendary space with limited summer hours, but we’re just getting warmed up… full hours coming this fall,” according to Jolly’s, which will expand operations when CWRU students are back.
Barking Spider closed in 2016 after a 30-year run. Dave’s Cosmic Rock Club, which moved in three years later, closed last year.
