“They Don’t Care About Us”: Voter Rage Against Ruling Class Fuels Upheaval

Political experience? Machine backing? Big donors?

Amy Acton had zero when she announced her run for governor in early 2025.

Even worse, her only associations with the public were negative – COVID, masks and lockdowns.

Yet, she’s favored to defeat Vivek Ramaswamy for Ohio’s top job in tomorrow’s midterm election.

Her ascent from unelectable liability to favorite is unprecedented.

“She came to the Happy Dog the day after she declared, and was incredible to talk to one on one,” says co-owner Sean Watterson.

“But you felt that all the money, endorsements and party support would go elsewhere.”

Flipping the script in ’26

  • Trump’s 11% win in 2024 turned Ohio so red that no Democrat bothered to take on Ramaswamy.

  • It left Acton to benefit from Trump’s drop to -21 approval rating.

  • Democrats Sherrod Brown and Brian Poindexter have also benefited in their races.

  • Acton’s inexperience meant no votes on contentious issues, like the Iran war, “Epstein class” and data centers.

  • Her lead drove Ramaswamy to air a $4 million attack ad featuring her estranged mother that engendered sympathy for Acton.

‘They don’t care about us.’

By Oct. 26, Cuyahoga Country had surpassed its entire 2022 early, in-person voting count.

No Faux Retro, Just Real Food: Why Shore Diner Endures at 40

The clubs have closed or moved on. Townhouses now line this stretch of Detroit Avenue in Lakewood Avenue.

But Shore Restaurant remains – and little has changed in the 40 years since Angelo and Tina Skantzos opened the intimate, charming diner. (Hey, it’s still 'Cash Only.)

“Forty years is a long time in this business,” says son Mike, who also works there with brother Steve. “It takes a lot of work – and we’ve stayed the same and kept things simple.”

All good with the patrons – ranging from generations of loyalists to waves of food adventurers looking for a hidden gem.

They come for diner classics: fluffy hotcakes and pancakes, French toast, omelets, home fries, sandwiches, corned beef and burgers.

The Skantzos family, which migrated from The Peloponnese, brings a touch of Greece to this spoon with gyro options.

There’s also the vibe.

Many diners enhance the whole ‘classic’ thing with faux-retro flair. Shore keeps it real.

“This is a family business,” says Mike. “It’s about service and food. That’s why they keep coming back.”

Hello, Cleveland: Mysterious 30-Foot Silver UFO Caught Flying Over Northeast Ohio

Cleveland, you’ve gotta be tough.

This year alone, we coughed and gagged through thick clouds of Canadian smoke. Pondered the abyss blasted by a 7-ton meteor that exploded over our heads.

Now, we discover that…

Pilots flying over Ohio radioed Cleveland Center air traffic control on Aug. 16, after spotting a mysterious silver object near their aircraft.

The episode was made public via the National UFO Reporting Center on October 26.

It described a silver, pill-shaped UFO that appeared roughly two to three miles away, estimated at 43,000 feet, and traveling in the opposite direction.

Its surface looked like polished metal, uniform with no warps, creases, or tapering.

Ah, but neither the plane’s collision-warning system nor the pilots’ flight-tracking app showed any other traffic.

Cleveland Center controllers confirmed the same: no aircraft or unidentified targets registered on radar in that area.

Investigators noted the object’s estimated size—at least 30 feet tall—and smooth shape challenge simple balloon explanations.

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo

With Fewer Than 100 in the Wild, Nikolai Brings Hope to Endangered Species

Amur leopards are among the world’s rarest and most critically endangered species, with less than 100 in the wild.

Now, we have one in Cleveland – and he isn’t hiding behind mom’s apron.

Nikolai, the first Amur leopard cub born in the Cleveland Metropark Zoo’s 144-year history, is out and about.

His public debut started slowly – initially sticking close to his mother like a shadow before exploring.

There are only about 80 of the big cats in zoos in North America.

In the wild, they only reside in the southwestern Primorye region of Russia.

VINTAGE CLEVELAND

Clarence Crane had an idea: to create a summer candy that could handle the heat better than chocolate. Ka-ching! ‘Crane’s Peppermint Life Savers’ were born in 1892 and would become one of the best-selling candies of all time. His son, Hart Crane, would become one of Cleveland’s most famous poets.
