Dig graveyards? These notorious resting places will flip your wig

Photos via respective cemeteries
The area has seen population decline, but there’s one place where residential growth is strong: our cemeteries. And they aren’t just repositories of bones.
Welcome to Lake View Cemetery – where spirits and stories make it the ultimate Halloween spot.
Saturday and Sunday, Canalway Partners’ Buried History Days will host tours of the celebrated graveyard as part of a series that includes strolls through Riverside, Woodland, Harvard Grove, Monroe Street and Brookmere cemeteries. Info.
These notorious haunts will tap your inner ghost-hunter.
Haserot Crying Angel in Lake View : The spooky bronze angel, sculpted in 1924 by Herman Matzen, cries black tears. Goth photo shoots galore.
Phantom Dogs of Harvard Grove: Cultists swarm the graveyard for the ghost dogs – and the notorious “White Lady” in one of the most haunted graveyards in North America.
The legend of Hannes Tiedeman at Riverside: Whoa, the grave of the industrialist who built Franklin Castle – and, some say, is linked to its legendary horrors? Yes.
Philapena Kellogg Dean in Woodland: She was tried and found not guilty of murder. Now, she haunts the cemetery, scissors in hand – with ghosts like “The Lady in White” and “The Playing Child.”
Two Cleveland athletes arrested for gambling… No, not who you think

Photo via Cavs/NBA
Two pro athletes with ties to Cleveland have been arrested for being involved in sports gambling and prop bets. No, not Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz.
Former Cavs player and assistant coach Damon Jones and Shaker Heights grad Terry Rozier have been accused of engaging in a sports rigging operation that spanned across 11 states and involved La Cosa Nostra.
According to the FBI, the NBA players “leveraged their connections to place prop bets based on confidential insider information, winning tens of thousands of dollars per bet.”
Jones, a fan favorite when he played in the first LeBron era, is accused of texting a co-conspirator that a Lakers players would sit out a game against the Bucks on Feb. 9, 2023.
The text: "Get a big bet on Milwaukee tonight before the information is out! [Player 3] is out tonight. Bet enough so Djones can to [sick] now!!!”
The player? His good friend, LeBron.
Birthplace of Polish Boy is getting a check — and a makeover

Virgil Whitmore crossed his Texas roots with the tastes of Cleveland’s East Side and a light came on…
Take a Polish sausage, pop it into a bun, top it with fries, coleslaw and a special sauce – and embrace the mess.
A Cleveland culinary classic — the Polish Boy — was born, in 1942. (Read our story about the origins of the sandwich here.)
His Mount Pleasant Bar-B-Q is still going strong and has stayed in the family for three generations — and stronger now that it's one of the East Side businesses to benefit from a $1.9 million grant issued to 29 businesses.
Owners Wayne Whitmore and sister Wendy Dennis will receive $93,514.50 to renovate one of the city's most beloved culinary institutions.
