Cleveland Fed Bombshell: Young College Grads Now Struggle as Much as High School Grads

For decades, a diploma was the key that unlocked doors in the workplace.
No more, according to a report by the Cleveland Federal Reserve.
Unemployed Americans with four-year degrees now make up a record 25.3% of total unemployment โ a number that has doubled since the 2008 financial crises,
Currently, more than 1.9 million recent grads with at least a bachelorโs degree are unemployed.
Meanwhile, the unemployment rate for Americans aged 20โ24 is up to 9.2%, the highest since May 2021 โ up 2.2% year-over-year. ย
โThe job-finding rate for young college-educated workers has declined to be roughly in line with the rate for young high-school-educated workers, indicating that a long period of relatively easier job-finding prospects for college grads has ended,โ reports the Cleveland Fed.
In June, Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, warned that AI could wipe out half of all entry-level white-collar jobs within five years โ rising in a 10% to 20% rise in unemployment.
The Fed finds that college-grad employment has steadily declined since 2000 โ and is leading to Americans reconsidering the financial benefits of going to college.
