No Free Agents, No Problem: Guardians Bet Everything on Their Kids in 2026

There wasn’t much to talk about this off-season. No free agent shopping spree: The only marquee signing was their one of their own – Jose Ramirez.

“Whoever we bring in, what opportunities does that take away from the group that we have?” says team president Chris Antonetti

In other words, bring on the young guys.

The Guardians open the regular season in Seattle at 10:10 p.m. with highly ranked, often-injured prospect Chase DeLauter in right field. He’s one of several prospects the team is counting on this season.

Young guys: C.J. Kayfus and George Valera will see action, and the team is high on both. Top second base prospect Travis Bazzana will start in Triple-A and will likely be on the team by mid-season.

Pitching: Opening Day starter Tanner Bibee and Gavin Williams anchor the staff, but the team envisions break-out seasons from starters Joey Cantillo and Slade Cecconi.

Free agents: The team went bargain shopping, signing slugger Rhys Hoskins on a minor-league deal. Hurt for much of last year, he’ll bring power to the lineup, if healthy. Relievers Shawn Armstrong and Colin Holderman bring depth to the bullpen.

Keys to ‘26: Will Kyle Manzardo and Rhys Hoskins bring some much-needed power? Can one of the rookies have a breakout season? Will Bo Naylor finally step up?

Cleveland’s Strangest Landmark Hides a Secret Underground Labyrinth – Tunnel Tours Return

World Atlas has called the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument on Public Square one of the strangest landmarks in Ohio.

Even lifelong Clevelanders do a double take when they walk past the ornate 1894 tribute to Cuyahoga County residents that served in the Civil War.

And that’s based on what it looks like above ground.

Under the memorial lies a labyrinth of tunnels, some so small you need to hunch your back to get through. It makes for one of the city’s most interesting urban adventures.

Lucky you: The S & S Tunnel Tours on back -- Saturday, April 25, and Sunday, April 26. Tickets go fast and go on sale April 4.

You’ll also get to a tour of the Memorial Room, which lists residents who served in the Civil War and includes the only statue of Abraham Lincoln holding a rifle.

You’ll also get to find out why civic leaders hated it and tried to block it from being in Public Square. Info.

Polish Boys on Ice: Monsters Transform into a Sausage Sandwich for Season’s Craziest Promotion

Yes, there are the goals – but also bruising fights and the wackiest promotions in sports.

The Cleveland Monsters have developed a cult following for all three -- and will go all-out with the last one when they transform into Cleveland Polish Boys.

Yes, they will wear jerseys featuring the sausage sandwich when they take on the Milwaukee Admirals – 7 p.m. Saturday April 4. Info.

The evening pays to Virgil Whitmore – who crossed his Texas roots with the tastes of the Mount Pleasant neighborhood to create Cleveland’s most iconic sandwich

Let’s see, take a Polish sausage, pop it into a bun, top it with fries, coleslaw and a special sauce – and embrace the mess. The Polish Boy was born, 1942.

Ritz-Carlton Brings Secret Sushi Speakeasy to Cleveland

The Ritz-Carlton upscaled its dining offerings when it opened Turn Bar + Kitchen in 2017 -- and, thankfully, without the haughtiness you often find in high-end hotels.

It’s seeking to replicate the vibe, but with a very different concept.

In April, the Ritz will launch Sushi by Bou – a speakeasy-style omakase that seats 16.

Located across from Turn, it will give Clevelanders a chance to partake in omakase – where diners leave it up to the chef to select seasonal specialties.

The city lost one of the most unique purveyors of the Japanese dining experience when Sushi Kuwahata closed in Ohio City in February. Info.
