It was a miracle season… that fell short

It was the biggest comeback in baseball history. But sometimes you need timely hitting, stellar defense and a certain reliever who doesn’t left the team in the lurch.
The Guardians missed all those things – and, as a result, ran out of gas.
The bullpen was relied on to be perfect throughout its run, but it would’ve helped to score some runs. Steven Kwan and Kyle Manzardo hit a combined 3-27 in the series. And the team could use a veteran right-handed power hitter.
But that’s for the off-season. This was a miracle season, and the Guards need to build on it next year. Bring on the Cavs.
Fall in full force. Summon the festivities.

Leaves are changing and skeletons and ghosts are stalking the night. The weekend brings a variety of autumnal events. Here are five:
Evil Dead in Concert: Sam Raimi’s 1981 cult classic hits the screen as Joe LoDuca’s iconic score gets performed by a live orchestra at the Agora. 8 p.m. Saturday. Info.
Autumn Glow Festival: The intricately crafted display of massive Chinese lanterns makes for a glowing autumn stroll in South River Vineyard in Geneva. 7 tonight. Info.
Cleveland Market: The fall edition of the two-day celebration of local makers and artists and food artisans hits Tyler Village in Cleveland’s Midtown neighborhood. Saturday and Sunday. Info.
Skeleton Grove: Holden Arboretum is getting ooky-spooky with towering skeletons – some reaching 12 feet – designed and decorated by area artists. Through Nov. 2. Info.
Ohio City Oktoberfest: Market Square Park will be transformed into a biergarten with, yes, bier, but also a pretzel toss, Steinholding Competitions and music by Die Unpronouncables. 3 p.m. Saturday. Info.
First Look: A bar that will give you nightmares – and that’s the point

There are spirits and there are spirits. The Nightmare Bar serves up both – not to mention games hosted by ghouls and ghosts, Goth mask-making and themed cocktails.
The bonkers Halloween concept inspired by Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” opens today in the basement of McJames Sports Pub in Parma. Info.
It’s the demented brainchild of Showtime Presents, a production company that has opened 12 such bars in the U.S., Canada and the U.K.
During a preview, Nightmare showcased its drinks and décor. The former are devilishly fun. The latter is rather sparse and nowhere as mischievous or spine-tingling as must-see Halloween bars like Amici’s and Post in Beam.

Community colleges see jump in enrollment; CSU cuts programs to offset losses
Community colleges saw a surge in enrollment during the 2008 economic crash. With job losses racking up this year and people looking for second jobs reaching 2008 levels, they’re coming back.
This fall, Tri-C saw a 3.6% increase in freshman enrollment. Lakeland Community College and Lorain County Community College have also both seen increases.
Job losses in the manufacturing and tech sectors – the latter due to AI replacing entry-level workers – have created a need for re-training.
Meanwhile, Cleveland State University has permanently discontinued 22 academic programs to offset a revenue gap. They include language studies and master’s programs in business administration, economics, chemistry, history and education.
In June, Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, warned that AI could wipe out half of all entry-level white-collar jobs within five years – rising in a 10% to 20% rise in unemployment.
