The Pacers came in wanting to shut down the Cavs three-point shooting. Mission accomplished: The Cavs shot 23.7% on 38 shots from the distance.
Cleveland was out of rhythm and lethargic on both ends of the floor. They chased on defense and betrayed their principles, over-helping and rushing to the ball – and, in the process, leaving shooters open.
The Pacers high-paced offense took advantage by moving the ball and using Tyrese Halliburton as a facilitator. As we wrote in our preview, he is most efficient when he creates open shots for his teammates.
Halliburton scored 22 points, but more importantly notched 13 assists – resulting in Indiana shooting 52.8% on 36 shots.
The Pacers outscored the Cavs by 30 points from the perimeter. That’s the ballgame – a 121-112 lose in Game 1 of the series.
Cleveland still has the talent advantage. Going forward, it needs to adhere to its principles on offense and, more importantly, on defense — starting with Game 2, 7 p.m. Tuesday.

For years, it was like an episode of ‘Only Murders in the Building.’ Podcasters would unravel the details in search of the killer in the shocking 2013 murder of Aliza Sherman.
The fertility nurse at the Cleveland Clinic was stabbed to death in broad daylight at Erieview Plaza while on her way to meet her divorce lawyer, Gregory Moore.
As it turned out, Sherman was led to the location until false pretenses: Moore had no intention of meeting her or seeing her messy divorce case go to trial.
He allegedly wanted her dead and either was, or conspired with, the ‘hooded figure dressed in black’ who murdered Sherman in 2013, according to a new Cuyahoga Country indictment that charges Gregory Moore with aggravated murder, murder, conspiracy and kidnapping.
“The Sherman family has waited over a decade for answers regarding their mother’s homicide,” Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley said in a statement. “Through the tenacious work of multiple law enforcement agencies, evidence was accumulated that paints the unmistakable picture that Gregory Moore orchestrated and participated in the brutal murder of Aliza Sherman.”
The indictment spells out the motive, saying Moore did not want to start a trial on the divorce case, so he carried out the killing to make Sherman “unavailable.”
At various points, Moore even went so far as to call in bomb threats to shut down courts so the case wouldn’t be heard. In 2017, he pleaded guilty to making the threats and was sentenced to six months in prison.
Moore, 51, was taken into custody in Texas, and is set to appear before a Cuyahoga County judge May 16.

Contrary to popular myth, Cinco de Mayo does not commemorate the day a gringo put a lime in a bottle of Corona and shouted, “Viva Mexico.”
But the holiday that marks the victory of the Mexican militia over the French army at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 has become a popular day to partake in Mexican-themed celebrations.
A number of bars and restaurants host music and food and drink specials that will make you say, ‘Ole.’ Check out the 216 Rundown for our Cinco de Mayo Guide.
