Fall festival season kicks off with art & tech: IngenuityFest
It’s the season for apple picking, clambakes, pumpkin spice and watching the leaves change color. Fall also has its festivals – and the biggest one starts tonight.
Here comes IngenuityFest.
At 6 tonight, the city’s biggest celebration of art and technology opens a three-day run at the Ingenuity Lab on Hamilton Avenue.
This year’s theme – Forging the Future – bridges Cleveland’s industrial roots with futuristic, interactive art, hands-on demonstrations and immersive installations.
Ingenuity’s six stages will host dozens of musical acts and DJs, dancers, acrobats and performers. Its interactive rooms allow attendees to absorb waves of sound and lights and interact with old- and new-tech activities.
It’s also a chance to party in hulking reborn factory that exemplifies a new direction for the city. More info.
More fests: Johnny Appleseed, fall harvest, pumpkins, clambakes & beer

More fall celebrations:
52nd Annual Johnny Appleseed Festival: The bash brings thousands to Mapleside Farms to celebrate the folk hero who traveled through the state planting nurseries. Themed foods, bands, pig races, goats and orchard strolls. Friday-Sunday. Info.
10th Annual Forest City + Warsteiner Oktoberfest: The biergarten takes on a German accent this weekend, stocked with beer, food and music. Noon Saturday. Info.
Harvest Festival: The old-timey bash in Strongsville’s downtown welcomes fall with historical village tours, entertainment, crafts, food and animal entertainers. 11 a.m. Saturday. Info.
Clambakes: Drink beer, eat clams at the Germanic Sachsenheim Hall (4 p.m. Saturday, info) and Great Lakes Brewery (11:30 a.m. Saturday, info.)
Cleveland on the screen: Exploring the city’s movie legacy

“Superman” and “Eenie Meanie” are the most recent of a long line of films to be shot here – from “A Christmas Story” to “The Deer Hunter,” “American Splendor” and “Major League.”
The Cleveland History Center explores those films and the city’s rich legacy in moviemaking with “Hollywood on the Cuyahoga.”
The exhibition features artifacts and multi-media displays, beginning with the first film made here: an 1897, 45-second short by the Thomas Edison Company.
It also looks at countless actors, directors and producers with local ties that transformed cinema: Margaret Hamilton (The Wicked Witch in “Wizard of Oz), Halle Berry, Paul Newman, Bob Hope, Jim Jarmusch, Henri Mancini and the Russo Brothers.
It runs today through October. Info.
From East 99th and St. Clair: Bone Thugs honored for music, activism at Rock Hall

Bone Thugs-n-Harmony never forgot its roots on East 99th Street and St. Clair Avenue.
The Cleveland hip-hop legends who struck gold by mixing singing with raps, harmonies and a fast cadence are here often and have raised money to help the neighborhood.
Cleveland hasn’t forgotten either: At 3 p.m. Sunday, it will honor the group with the Music Keynote to the City at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Union Home Mortgage Plaza.
“[It’s] confirmation that our story, our struggles, and our sound meant something deeper than music,” says Krayzie Bone. “From Cleveland’s corners to the classrooms, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony inspired a generation to believe in their own voice.”
The group will perform after the presentation. Info.

Playoff update after Guardians lose to Tigers
The Guardians were on the precipice of history as they took the field against the Tigers.
Their starting pitchers have allowed two runs or less in 19 consecutive games – one short of the record set over a century ago.
They didn’t make it. The Tigers attacked Parker Messick and the Guardians bats went dead, despite Jose Ramirez breaking the team record for extra base hits. The 4-2 loss leaves the teams with the same record – though Cleveland has the tiebreaker.
The magic number to take the division is three – any combo of Guardians wins against the Rangers and Tigers losses against the Red Sox.
The Guards hold the tiebreaker with Houston and are, in effect, two games ahead of them in the Wild Card race.
