Fourth of July celebrates of all things Americana. Yes, fireworks shows -- check out our guide โ€“ but also spots that summon nostalgia and romance:

  • Country Maid Ice Cream: Opened in 1948, the parlor looks like an old movieโ€ฆ Homemade ice cream with fruit that is homegrown in its orchards. Info.

CLASSIC DRAGSTERS

Kuhnle Motorsports Park: At 66 years, itโ€™s one of the longest-running drag racing strips in the Midwest. At 9 a.m. today, it rolls an Independence Day Explosion โ€“ an all-day race-a-thon. Info.

OHIOโ€™S LONGEST BEACH

Headlands Beach State Park: The longest natural beach in Ohio was a filming location for โ€˜Superman.โ€™ Itโ€™s a destination for picnickers, dune walkers and bird, butterfly and wildlife watchers. Info.

OLD POSTCARDS COME TO LIFE

Geneva-on-the-Lake: The Lake Erie resort town is a hoot โ€“ and a slice of vintage Americana loaded with old-school burger joints, penny arcades, candy shops and flickering signs, a circa-1924 putt-putt course and views of Lake Erie. Info.

The LeBron Circus is Back โ€“ With Another Bold Prediction Fromโ€ฆ a Bakery?

Fans went bonkers looking for clues the last time LeBron pondered a return. They even tracked the flight paths of Dan Gilbertโ€™s plane.

โ€œLook, heโ€™s heading to Florida to meet with LeBron,โ€ they said.

Nope, said Gilbert: โ€œSorry folks, but enjoying weather in my backyard today.โ€

The media mocked the circus. But fans were ahead of the media: Gilbert did fly to Florida to meet LeBron.

Then came Carolineโ€™s Cupcakes, which broke the news.

โ€œCleveland is a done deal,โ€ reported the Canton bakery.

More mockery, until LeBron confirmed his return.

Now history is repeating itself โ€“ with, yes, inside dirt from a baker.

โ€œCharles Oakley came to my bakery all the time. He told me heโ€™s met with Maverick Carter last week, and he told me LeBron James is 95% coming to Cleveland,โ€ said the anonymous baker, while calling a local talk show.

The report has gone viral

Crazy, right?

Well, of course, the LeBron Circus has pulled up to town, again.

Pink Flamingos, Punk & Pierogi: Parma Embraces Quirky Past for Bicentennial

Every city has stores, restaurants and bars. Parma has all that, including one of the areaโ€™s most eclectic food scenes.

But thereโ€™s something elseโ€ฆ A colorful story.

The city will celebrate its bicentennial alongside America 250th with a bash at Ridgewood Golf Club on Saturday. Info.

Parma has celebrated throughout the year โ€” yes, the milestone, but also its quirky past and personality.

The East Side has the museums. Parma is a pop cultural mecca.

Late-night TV legend Ghoulardi always joked about it. So did Big Chuck & Liโ€™l John.

The city has spawned countless musicians, from Ben Orr (the Cars), to Pat Benatarโ€™s musical director Neil Geraldo, punk legends Jimmy Zero and Tony Erba, Damnation of Adam Blessing and the Alarm Clocks.

Settled in 1816, itโ€™s also home to purveyors of pop โ€“ from Rudyโ€™s Strudel to The Current Year and North Coast and B&L comics.

โ€œParma has become cool โ€“ comic book and records stores, ethnic restaurants and bakeries,โ€ says Mayor Tim DeGeeter. โ€œPeople used to make fun of Parmaโ€™s pink flamingos, but we embraced it and adopted it as our official mascot.โ€

The kitschy lawn ornament, once mocked as a symbol of suburban malaise, took off in Parma in the 1960s.

The city is now in on the gag. And its irreverent attitude sets it apart from the staid and old โ€“ which is why Gen Z and Millennial are moving there.

Death to Disco? Not so Soon. Glitter Ball Spins Again in Flats

Decades has been packed since opening last year on the east bank of the Flats.

As it turns out, too much of a good thing is way too much.

At least for the landlord of the Decades, who shut it down due to overcrowding โ€“ after the city issued a nuisance letter after multiple assaults occurred in the club.

Come Thursday, the glitter ball will spin again.

Decades will open after owner Bryan Dall introduced new rules on overcrowding and unruliness.
