Screams, thrills and terror: Cedar Point has a curse for you

Ready to get cursed? The most-anticipated thrill ride of the summer is here.
After nine months of work, Cedar Point will unveil the tallest, fastest and longest tilt roller coaster in North America when it takes Sirenβs Curse out for a spin this weekend.
The machine of mayhem is 160 feet tall and hits 58 miles per hour. Whoa, it even features mythical sirens living under the waters of Lake Erie that lure sailors with their songs.
The 10-second tilt part of the coaster will screamify riders. It teeters the coasterβs train into a 90-degree vertical position before locking into place and releasing riders into the 2,966 feet of twisting track below.
Cedar Point expects Sirenβs Curse to become a national attraction. It opens Saturday. Season passholders can give it an early whirl on Friday -- 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Info here.

IngenuityFest is back for 21st year⦠to forge links between past and future

Photos courtesy IngenuityFest
IngenuityFest felt like some spontaneous happening when it took over a bunch of indoor and outdoor spaces for its 2004 debut.
Twenty-one years later, the celebration of art and technology is just as spontaneous.
The festival has just announced its schedule and a theme β Forging the Future β that honors the cityβs past while looking to the future. It runs Sept. 26-28 in the 350,000-square-foot Hamilton Avenue warehouse it calls home.
βArt and music are key components, but we also bring in technology and manufacturing with collaborations with Cleveland companies that are showcasing innovation in the city,β says director Emily Applebaum.
IngenuityFest, which attracted 20,000 people last year, will roll out six stages for bands, DJs, dancers, acrobats and performers. It also boasts interactive rooms where attendees absorb waves of sound and lights and interact with immersive old- and new-tech activities.
βWeβre returning to hands-on tech like welding and metal working and glass blowing so expect a lot of sparks flying,β says Applebaum. βThe theme is about celebrating our industrial heritage and connecting it to the trajectory of innovation in town.β
Tickets are now on sale and available, along with a full schedule, here.
βStolen propertyβ: Class-action lawsuit threatens plan to raid unclaimed funds for stadium

Itβs your money and the state has no right to take it from you.
So say a pair of former Ohio lawmakers about a new budget that allows the state to raid the unclaimed funds account to help finance a new Browns stadium in Brook Park.
βWeβre not anti-stadium. Weβre anti-theft,β said Dan Crossman, a former state representative who is working with former Ohio attorney general Marc Dann to file a class-action lawsuit against the state over the matter.
Thus far, Ohio has held unclaimed funds in perpetuity, until a claimant files to retrieve money owed to them β but has dipped into the $4.8 billion pool numerous times in extraordinary situations.
This is not one of them, according to Crossman. βYou canβt balance a budget on broken promises, and you canβt build a stadium on stolen property,βΒ he said.
The budget calls for taking $1.7 billion out of account, with $600 million going toward the Browns stadium.
Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne, an opponent of a Brook Park stadium, has called on Ohioans to claim their money:
βIn the last 24 hours Ohio residents claimed thousands of unclaimed funds after learning of the Ohio Senateβs plans to give away their $ from this fund to Haslam Sports Group for the Browns Boondoggle. Way to go Ohio. Claim yours here before the Haslams do.β

Legendary Leoβs Casino gets musical celebration
Cleveland made music history at Leoβs Casino. The 700-capacity basement club at 7500 Euclid Avenue that hosted so many greatsβ¦ Nina Simone, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, the Supremes, John Coltrane, Ray Charles and the Temptations.
It was the first stop out of Detroit for Motown bands in the 1960s. Otis Redding played his last show there in1967, the night before he died in a plane crash. Whites and blacks mingled in one of the countryβs first integrated clubs, even as riots raged in the neighborhood.
At 3 p.m. Sunday, the Cleveland History Center will pay tribute to the legacy of Leoβs with a music-filled celebration, the 2nd Annual Funk Not Fight Lovefest. More info.
VINTAGE CLEVELAND
Opened in 1870 as a beach, pavilion and picnic area, Cedar Point is the second-oldest operating amusement park in the United States. The first roller coaster, the Switchback Railway, opened in 1892.
