125 Dreamers to 80,000 Fans: How Parade the Circle Became Cleveland’s Summer Spectacle

Every June, Wade Oval transforms into a moving canvas – filled with towering puppets, giant butterflies, stilt walkers, drummers, dancers and artists.
And what started as a one-off party has become a staple of festival season.
Since 1990, Parade the Circle has served as one of the city’s most distinctive cultural traditions — a celebration where art leaves the museum walls and spills onto the streets.
It started as part of the Cleveland Museum of Art's 75th anniversary celebration. But the artistic procession around Wade Oval quickly captured the imagination of participants and spectators alike.
Parade the Circle has grown from attracting 125 participants and 500 spectators to amassing up to 80,000 people in Wade Oval. Noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. Info.
It’s one of three big fests on Saturday.
Don’t forget:
Larchmere PorchFest: The Larchmere neighborhood bash rolls more than 30 acts -- from rock to folk to funk to jazz – that play on porches to create a swinging street party. Info.
The Hooley: It transforms Kamm’s Corners into an arts, music and food-filled street party full of Irish spirit… After all, "hooley" is Irish slang for a celebration. Info.

A MESSAGE FROM VOSS+AGIN
The Year Cleveland Ruled the World: Why 2016 Vibes are Hitting Home Again
It was a year of triumph and transformation – when sports glory, politics and urban revival made Cleveland the center of the universe.
The Cavs made a believer out even the biggest pessimist with a historic comeback to win the NBA title.
The Indians came oh-so-close to winning the World Series.
The city received endless praise for its hosting of the RNC.
So, it’s no surprise that Cleveland has embraced 2016 vibes — a nostalgia for a different time embraced around the world.
Few American cities experienced a year quite like Cleveland did in 2016, when a gritty underdog triumphed against long odds.
The Cavs comeback from a 3-1 deficit against the Warriors to with the championship captured the spirit of the line, “Cleveland You Gotta Be Tough.”
The team will pay tribute to that historic win with a party at Meet Me Here Plaza on Friday, June 19th,12:00- 3:00 p.m.
The Cavs will roll out food trucks, a beer garden, interactive activities and a replay of Game 7. Admission is free, but you have to RSVP here.
🏆 What's your strongest memory from Cleveland's legendary 2016?

We cherish summers in Cleveland. Yes, because there are so many things to do but also because surviving those nasty winters unleash our inner party monster.
Especially during patio season when leafy green getaways and stellar views pair so well with al fresco drinking and dining.

Here are five with enchanting views:
17 River Grille: It’s like walking into a postcard -- a patio deck that overlooks the picturesque Chagrin Falls and boasts a priceless view.
Collision Bend: Located in the 19th-century building that once housed the storied Watermark, it boasts an energetic crowd and timeless views of the Flats.
Creekside: A secluded getaway in the Brecksville woods -- where peace of mind and a delightful food and drink menu reign, as the wind rustles through the leaves and the creek down below trickles along.
Merwin's Wharf: This sprawling patio along the Cuyahoga sits amid a unique mix of industry and nature, old bridges and wild greenery. Great views and vibes.
Moosehead Hoof & Ladder: The back of this eatery – housed in a 1940s firehouse – juts into the woods overlooking Rocky River. So much so that you feel cut off from civilization… trees, leaves, plants, greenery, deer in the distance.
