Last Bus is Leaving: End of an Era for the Greyhound Station
Photos by John Petkovic. Vintage photos via Cleveland Memory Project.
Most of the seats have been removed. The restaurant is long closed. Thereโs a spartan staff and, most nights, an eerie silence in the waiting area.
And the last bus is set to depart from one of Clevelandโs most stylish buildings.
Next month, both Greyhound and Barons Bus will be relocated to a new station next to the RTAโs Brook Park Rapid Station.
It will bring an end to a state of purgatory for the station, which was built in 1948 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.
It was once considered Greyhoundโs crown jewel, and an immaculate example of Streamline Moderne โ an offshoot of Art Deco that boasts stylish curves, bold lines and smooth surfaces.
It was also one of Greyhoundโs last stations.
Last year, Playhouse Square purchased the station and plans to turn it into a performance space or supper club. ย It was a godsend to preservationists, who dreaded a developer undermining its architectural significance by converting it into apartments.

Raise a Glass of Sangria: Mallorca, Cordeliaโs Vinnie Cimino nominated for Beard Awards

Itโs so good for so long that it can get overlooked amid the rush to hit the latest opening. ย
But few places paint a picture of a place exotic and far away yet close to home like Mallorca.
Yes, the Paella connotes a warm day in Spain. Ditto for the shrimp in Fra-Diavolo Sauce โ hot, hot, hot.
There are also welcoming service and waiters with personality, wit and charm.
It has earned Mallorca a semifinalist designation in the James Beard Awards for Outstanding Hospitality โ the only Ohio restaurant in that national category.
An anchor in the Warehouse District since the 1990s, Mallorca has navigated COVID-19, economic downturns and shifting trends without sacrificing its service or sensibilities.
Cordeliaโs Vinnie Cimino has also been nominated for theย Best Chef: Great Lakes category.
Which Cleveland food spot deserves national love?
Razor-Thin Margins Meet Soaring Costs: Proof BBQ is the Latest Casualty

Independent restaurants operate on razor-thin margins of 5%. Menu prices have risen 30% since 2019. Insurance inflation has risen 20-60% since 2020.
Itโs why there have been more closings than openings over the last six weeks.
The latest casualty is Proof BBQ on Lorain Avenue in Ohio City.
โBusiness started to crater for us after the summer,โ says owner Dave Ferrante. โInflation really kills you when youโre serving brisket.โ
Beef prices shot up 16.4% in 2025. It made business untenable, especially with operators hesitant to pass along every price hike to patrons.
Ferrante, who also owns the recently opened Visible Voice and three rehabbed buildings, has helped spark a revival of the street by luring shops to the area.
โThe closing of Proof has more to do with the menu and concept than Lorain,โ says Ferrante. โWeโll have another local operator in there and more shops moving into the area. Itโs two steps forward, one step back.โ

Parma Kid to NHL Badass: Goalie Goes Viral for Epic Brawl
Alex Nedeljkovic dreamed of making it to NHL while skating the rinks in Parma. Going viral for clobbering a guy is another story.
The Parma native is the only goalie to score a goal in three leagues -- NHL, AHL ECHL.
Heโs also became a social-media star after appearing in the rarest of NHL spectacles: A goalie-on-goalie brawl.
The San Jose Sharks goaltender, who got his start in Parma Flyers Youth Hockey, pummeled and pinned his Florida Panthers counterpart Sergei Bobrovsky to the ice.
His teammates ecstatically banged their sticks on the boards as he delivered the beatdown.
Nedeljkovic credits his career to his early days in Parma. Heโs also a Browns fan, which no doubt requires being tough.
Goalies fighting โ legendary or unhinged?
