Don’t let the sun go down on you: Summer bucket list starts now

Photos courtesy events and organizations.

We’ve passed the half-way point of summer. Sunset’s peak hit 9:04 p.m. and is 8:35 tonight. Start putting together your bucket list for the season. Get started this weekend:

SLS Cleveland Takeover: Pro skater and MGK buddy Ryan Sheckler headlines the skateboarding street-style competition of top skaters in the world North Coast Yard. 1 p.m. Saturday. Info.

Great Lakes Beer and Music Festival: Beers from 10 local breweries, bands and a Jack Daniel cocktail menu? Sweet. The bash hits Market Avenue and the GLBC brewpub 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Info.

Demolition Derby at Cuyahoga County Fair: Reckless abandon and mashing of metal, oohs and whoas. The smash-and-crash bash is the fair’s high point. 2 p.m. Sunday. Info.

Shaq at FWD: The iconic hoopster and ex-Cav fell in love with music before he became a baller – and used it to develop his game. On Sunday August 10, his musical alter-ego DJ Diesel hits FWD Day + Nightclub in the Flats. Info.

Cuyahoga River Rally: Celebrate the river with walking, biking and boat tours at Hart Crane Park. The fest includes rides on the Holiday Boat, music and a beer garden. 10 a.m. Saturday. Info.

MGK After Party at FWD: MGK is in town for a series of weekend events and, while there’s no official announcement, he’s expected to attend the after party at FWD Day + Nightclub. Musician and MGK producer SLIMXX headlines. 8 p.m. Saturday. Info.

Sold: They’re moving to Strongsville

Pack up the U-Haul. We’re going to the 44149.

A new report from realtor.com that measures demand for homes and how quickly they sold has named Strongsville sixth hottest zip codes in the country.

It marks the first time a Cleveland-area suburb has broken into the national Top Ten list.

Houses in the 44149 sold in 25 days – far better than the national average of 58 days. The median listing price in Strongsville is $423,000.

“Strongsville has 3 things going for it: a good school system, safe neighborhoods and a relatively new housing stock,” says Sionnan Monroe, a Cleveland realtor for Keller Williams.

Increasingly, Gen Zs are buying homes in Midwest, because they are perceived as more affordable than the coastal markets.

Golden Age of sports bars? New Euclid ups the game

Have Browns fans ever been more excited about a pre-season game?

No doubt, they’ll be watching the debut of Shedeur Sanders at Golden Tavern. The just-opened sports bar has taken over the old Panini’s spot in Euclid.

Owners Jason Tang and Caleb Frei spent $1.5 million in renovations to create what they call an upscale sports bar experience that recalls America’s “Golden Age.” (If only they could summon a Browns golden age.)

They’ve added an array of wide-screen TVs, new booths and lighting and upgraded the outdoor patio to accommodate a full-on bar and live music. There’s also the menu -- craft cocktail and craft-beer lists paired with entrees, steaks, pizzas, tacos and burgers

The 216 Rundown

Nights of pasties, feather boas and titillation

Shake a tassel for the Ohio Burlesque Festival. The 13th installment of the annual soiree hits the Beachland Ballroom Friday through Sunday. It features 50 burlesque, drag, aerial and musical performers doing enough shaking to make you dizzy. Info.

Dancing in the darkness

Reaper on Red, a Cincy band led by ex-Clevelanders Robert and Carla Cherry, has just released a stellar disc that pairs drones, dark atmospheres and melodies. They hit the Beachland Ballroom at 8 tonight. Info.

Party animals sit up for pups

.Animal shelters are overcrowded and need help. Shake a paw for Paws for a Cause – 3 p.m. Saturday at Local Strongsville. The party-hearty bar is hosting a day of bands raising money for the Cleveland APL. Info.

What 10-game losing streak? The scrappiest team in MLB is back

Just one month ago, a 10-game losing streak dropped the Guardians to 40-48. They were 15.5 games behind the Tigers.

My, how things have changed:

  • The team has gone 19-7 since then and is 1.5 games out of the wild card and six games behind the Tigers – despite losing Emmanuel Clase.

  •  Odds of making the playoffs have jumped from 5.6% to 24%.

  • The team had its worst offensive month in franchise history in June. It’s a top 10 offense since the all-star break.

  • The scrappiest team in baseball has the 21st easiest schedule going forward and opens a three-game series against the lowly White Sox today.

VINTAGE CLEVELAND

On May 15, 1981, Indians pitcher Len Barker threw a perfect game against the Blue Jays at Cleveland Stadium – one of only 24 perfect games in MLB history.
