Cleveland’s Holiday Market Weekend Kicks Off with Christmas Connection + Tree Lightings + Hot Dog Vibes

Yup, the time of the year when vendors proclaim, “Shop Local.”
Just be careful with your credit cards; you could max them out at Christmas Connection.
The Cleveland holiday tradition comes to the I-X Center Friday through Sunday.
For three decades, the Connection has been a magnet for shoppers looking to connect with 550 local and regional artisans selling handcrafted ornaments, apparel and gourmet treats.
It features towering displays (including a 30-foot Santa), gingerbread villages, entertainment, those lovable Labradors of Lake Erie and a special guest: Karolyn Grimes, a.k.a. Zuzu in the 1946 classic “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Info.
It’s one of four markets hitting the area:
Third Friday at 78th Street Studios: The monthly bash boasts artisans, artists, gallery tours, food, drinks and live music. 5 tonight. Info.
Crocker Park’s Annual Tree Lighting: The annual bash rolls out live entertainment, food trucks, Santa, and vendors. 6 p.m. Saturday. Info.
Happy Dog Holiday Market: It’s a bar. It serves hot dogs. The vibes are always good. The Happy Dog will also roll out local artisans, poster artists and drink specials for its annual market. Noon Sunday. Info.

Data Centers: AI Revolution Comes with a Heavy Price – and You’re Paying for It

Yesterday, we debuted 216 Insider Special Edition Reports – and it tackles what is one of the most important issues of our lifetime.
To read it in its entirety, join us here.
Here’s the deal:
Ohio provides tax breaks for dozens of data centers in the state, including 19 in Cleveland.
So, what are you getting?
This summer alone, energy-devouring data centers accounted for a 10-15% increase in electricity bills – and it comes on top of the doubling in prices between the summers of 2023 and 2024.
Pressure is building – and not just on your finances or the grids.
The not-so-hidden cost of data centers has stoked a not-in-my-backyard revolt.
Only 44% of Americans welcome a data center nearby – and the intensity of opposition increases when they hear about the environmental and economic downsides.
Data centers are taxing our bills, grid and greatest natural resource, Lake Erie. Opposition to them is uniting people of all backgrounds.
It’s inspiring a movement, because the issue is so important to us all.

With Steel Shortages Growing, GM Invests in Parma to Boast U.S. Supply Chain

Cleveland Cliffs has applauded the Trump Administration’s steel tariffs. But it comes at a cost.
There are wide gaps between what is available and what is needed for domestic production.
The Port of Cleveland is seeing less cargo due to 25% steel tariffs on China, Canada, Mexico and the EU -- 363,000 metric tons in 2024 vs. a projected 300,000 metric tons this year.
To bridge the gap, General Motors is investing $250 million in Parma Metal Center to expand capacity for its domestic supply chain.
“Our manufacturing teams are the driving force behind GM’s success, and we’re committed to giving them the tools and training they need to excel in today’s advanced manufacturing world,” said Mike Trevorrow, senior vice president of global manufacturing.
PMC’s manufacturing capabilities include metal stamping and processes more than 400 tons of steel daily, producing parts for most of GM’s North American-built products.
Opened in 1948, the plant employs 1,100 workers and can produce up to 100 million parts a year. Read the GM statement on the move here.

He grew up playing reggae vinyl in the basement and dreaming of being in a band. The light went off after seeing Bob Marley play Cleveland – which he calls a “religious experience.”
For five decades, he’s been a proselytizer and player of the music – with pioneering acts like I-Tal, First Light and his long-running P.L.U.S. Band.
At 7 tonight, Jones and the band will hit the Beachland Ballroom. Info.
