Father of Modern Painting Meets the Queen of Impressionism: “Manet & Morisot” Opens CMA’s New Season

The Cleveland Museum of Art celebrates its 110th anniversary this year – and what better way to do it than with a show by an artist it has displayed for all but six of those years.
Here comes “Manet & Morisot” – which opens Sunday and runs through July 5.
It’s the first exhibition ever dedicated to the creative exchange between Édouard Manet —often called the father of modern painting— and Berthe Morisot, the only woman among the founding members of the Impressionist movement.
The museum acquired its Manet works in 1922, and its first major painting by the Frenchman in 1958 (Berthe Morisot with a Muff, 1871–72).
Manet & Morisot is the centerpiece of the museum's 2026 lineup that includes:
Martin Puryear: Nexus illuminates the American sculptor's expressive abstract forms (April 12).
Spectacular Freedom: Andrew Wyeth and the Modern American Watercolor by the American artist that pioneered a style that mixes abstraction and realism.
Ten Kings of Hell and the Afterlife in Medieval Korea explores visions of the afterlife. (Oct. 11). Info.

A Symbol of Cleveland’s Golden Age Is Now in Distress — And Heading to Auction

Cleveland was the fifth biggest city in the country -- an economic powerhouse, renowned for industry and banking.
The Huntington Bank Building on Euclid Avenue was a symbol of the fast-growing metropolis when it opened in 1924.
How times have changed.
The Beaux-arts, 21-floor marvel that boasted the world’s largest bank lobby now finds itself on the auction block.
And it sits along less prestigious distressed holdings like the crash-and-turn EV start-up Nikola Motor Co. and buildings that once housed Advance Auto Parts and Dollar General stores.
The tower went into foreclosure after its previous owner Millenia defaulted on bank and Cuyahoga County and HUD loans. It’s one of three buildings in foreclosure by the Cleveland real estate management and investment company.
“The [Huntington Building] is a truly exceptional asset with the scale, history and presence to attract broad market interest,” said Jim Avallone, of Gordon Brothers, a Boston-based firm handling the sale.

Roll Down the Windows and Rewind Time: Aut-o-Rama Opens 61st Season

Forget spring. We’re ready for summer – when the windows roll down, the stars and moon come out and movie hits the screen.
Aut-o-Rama opens its 61st season tonight.
The North Ridgeville drive-in is a timeless slice of Americana that serves up classic thrills, a vintage concessions stand and retro movie trailers.
There were once 4,000 drive-ins around the country. There are currently 321 and 24 in Ohio – the third most of any state.
Aut-o-Rama thrives because, more than movies. it’s a nostalgic experience.
The latter pairs cult classics to honor Richard Hollingshead – the New Jersey man who pioneered the drive-in in 1928, when he stretched a bed sheet between two trees in his backyard and projected a movie onto it.
Then a light went off in his head: The drive-in theater was born, and movies and cars were pronounced married.
The love affair is still strong at Aut-o-Rama. Info.

Last Lap at the I-X Center: Hot Rod Asylum Fires Up One Final Roar
Rev up the gassers for one last ride and make way for Hot Rod Asylum.
The show within the Cleveland Piston Powered Auto-Rama will roll out classic cars -- from, yes, hot rods to custom-cars, racers, campers and souped-up vans. It’s the end of the race for the I-X Center, which is closing after a 40-year run. Read our story here.
It hosted 70 unique consumer shows and exhibitions annually, including the I-X Indoor Amusement Park, featuring the world's tallest indoor Ferris wheel.
