Hurray, ladies: Womenâs History Month is here with ways to celebrate

Photos courtesy Library of Congress
Women have played a defining role in the Cleveland long before the world embraced International Womenâs Day, which is March 8.
You could go back to the founding of Cleveland, when settler Tabitha Stiles stood with her husband, Job, and Moses Cleaveland, as the city was founded.
Cleveland was home to one of the nationâs earliest suffrage conventions, in 1869. East Cleveland was one of the first cities in the nation to give women the vote.
You can celebrate the holiday and Womenâs History Month in various ways.
At 6 p.m. Friday, the Cleveland Museum of Art will roll out MIX: Dancing Queen. The March installment of the monthly bash celebrates women of the disco movement. DJ Hodgepodge Lodge and DJ Guilty Pleasures will spin disco sets while the museum serves themed food and drinks. Bonus: Attendees can check out the acclaimed exhibit, Picasso on Paper. More info here.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will celebrate with Revolutionary Women in Music. The exhibit looks at groundbreaking female musicians, from the 1970s to today. More info here.
Of course, you could also celebrate Womenâs History Month by patronizing area restaurants owned by women. Check out a list of some of them in The 216 Rundown.

Look, itâs Lake Erie: Downtown pop-up park to bring games, parties to lakefront

For more than a decade, civic leaders have envisioned a transformation of the lakefront â one that mixes green spaces with events and recreation.
Come May, Clevelanders will get a small glimpse at the concept. Thatâs when North Coast Yard opens in a city-owned lot next to the Steamship Mather, north of Browns Stadium.
The pop-up park will be open through September and will feature two pickleball courts, a roller rink and basketball court. There are also areas for food and drink vendor, Â live music and DJs, as well as covered places where you lounge around by Lake Erie.
âCleveland's residents should not have to wait to experience a lakefront that belongs to them," said Scott Skinner, of North Coast Waterfront Development Corporation, a non-profit responsible for developing and overseeing the park.
For years, there has been a debate over plans for the lakefront: Should it be used for clubs, hotels and apartments or a public green space? Plans have trended toward the latter and North Coast Yard offers an early glimpse.
The grand opening is June 13-15. The park will kick off its Friday roller skating nights on June 6 with Pride Roller Disco. It will also host monthly parties every second Saturday, a Wednesday basketball league and a Fourth of July celebration.
Not so fast: Fast Eddieâs to close end of year

For 10 years, Fast Eddieâs brought a modern take on comfort food to Parma. Instead of celebrating an anniversary, the bar and restaurant in the Shoppes of Parma is closing at the end of the year.
âMany favors led to our decision not to renew. Rent costs and labor cost for a large square-foot restaurant has become particularly challenging,â says owner Eddie Cerino.
Fast Eddieâs has developed a loyal following with its unique take on burgers, which dates back to 1985, when Cerino opened Fast Eddieâs Creative Burger Cuisine in Parma. Â
He kept the concept and added to it at the new location by adding classic and signature cocktails, Kung Pao lettuce wraps, unique salads, egg and mushroom toast and new takes on old standards like city chicken and meat loaf.
The problem isnât food or customers, but rather space â and the rising rent that come with it.
âWe will be keeping our eye out for a smaller footprint location to move our concept in the Parma area,â says Cerino.
In the meantime, Fast Eddieâs will celebrate 10th anniversary with specials and promotions until it closes.
Operations at Cerinoâs other eateries Pizzeria Cerino in Seven Hills and Ciao in Brecksville â are unaffected by the decision.
