Big investors are buying this “unlisted” stock

When the founder who sold his last company to Zillow for $120M starts a new venture, people notice. That’s why the same VCs who backed Uber, Venmo, and eBay also invested in Pacaso.

Disrupting the real estate industry once again, Pacaso’s streamlined platform offers co-ownership of premier properties, revamping the $1.3T vacation home market.

And it works. By handing keys to 2,000+ happy homeowners, Pacaso has already made $110M+ in gross profits in their operating history.

Now, after 41% YoY gross profit growth last year alone, they recently reserved the Nasdaq ticker PCSO.

B.A. Sweetie turns 75: Cleveland icon & biggest candy store in North America

Photos by John Petkovic and B.A. Sweetie

He doesn’t wear a purple velvet suit or employ Oompa Loompas. But you’d be hard-pressed to find a candy man that has sparked pure imagination like Tom Scheiman.

Step right up to B.A. Sweetie -- the biggest candy store in North America at 40,000 square feet, with 5,500 brands and 600,000 pounds of treats. It’s a factory of sweet dreams that spark nostalgia and whimsy.

Check out that miniature amusement park. The old candy boxes. Those crazy soda pop flavors – pickle juice, toxic waste, bug barf.

The Willy Wonka of Cleveland is upping the ante to celebrate B.A. Sweetie’s 75th anniversary.

“We’re doing promos in the candy store, like Reese’s Cups for 75 cents,” says Scheiman. “And I changed out the turf from green to purple, in honor of Willy Wonka.”

Welcome to Golfland Park – an enchanting course adorned with giant lollipops, streams and trees that will drop prices for18-round play from $11 to $7.50 Friday-Sunday.

Opened in 1950, B.A. Sweetie started in a basement by founders Frank Stansny and Al Tokar. Scheiman took over in 1982 and turned it into a Cleveland icon and tourist destination.

“We used to twiddle our thumbs in the summer,” says Scheiman. “Now, it’s our busiest time, with travelers coming from all over all over the country.”

Soaring cocoa prices, tariff uncertainty and recession fears have challenged the candy industry. But B.A. Sweetie’s is about more than chocolate.

“People tell me that I’m Willy Wonka,” Scheiman laughs. “We have treats that remind you of when you were a kid, no matter the age.”

Wait, what… Mentor? Parma? Best places to live in the U.S.?

Yes, according to U.S. News and World Report’s 250 Best Places to Live in the U.S. in 2025-2026.

The study ranks Mentor at 138 followed by Parma at 157 because “they offer a lower value of living compared to similarly sized cities.”

They beat out Ohio’s major cities, and Austin, NYC, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston and Chicago.

Before you scoff, consider the changing basis for such rankings. Increasingly, they focus on cost of living and affordability – which have become bigger concerns in the wake of inflation and skyrocketing home prices.

“Younger generations are typically associated with wanting to live a big-city lifestyle, but the high cost of housing on the coasts is driving Gen Z to consider other options,” according to a new report by Fortune.

Welcome to the Midwest, where housing markets are 30% cheaper than the coasts, according to Consumer Affairs/U.S. Census Bureau.

America loves riding Shedeur roller coaster

Has a 5th round pick ever been the subject of this much intrigue? Welcome to the roller coaster ride known as Shedeur.

Sanders was the most-hyped player heading into the 2025 NFL Draft. His dramatic drop to Day Three drove record-setting TV ratings.

He went viral on social media after throwing his second touchdown in the Browns Friday preseason – drawing raves from LeBron and sports talkers Michael Irwin, Kendrick Perkins and Skip Bayless.

Nike turned his performance into ad with an X post that hit 15 million views. On top of it all, he has the best-selling jersey among rookies in the NFL. Not bad for a 5th rounder.

Egads, it’s ‘Beetlejuice’

Scream and sing along to that ghostly couple and the mischievous demon. Yes, it’s ‘Beetlejuice.’ On Tuesday, the Broadway musical comedy based on Tim Burton’s 1988 flick opens a six-day, nine-show run in State Theatre in Playhouse Square. Tickets, times here.

Up in the sky: Peak times for shooting stars

Look up, and, no, it’s not a bird, a plane, or Superman. The Perseid meteor shower – one of the year’s most spectacular celestial events – peaks through Wednesday morning. During this time, you could see 60–100 meteors per hour. The ideal time for Cleveland is early Tuesday up until sunrise.  Perseids are meteors, pieces of space debris from the comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle, discovered in 1862, according to NASA. More info.

Cleveland – a dog’s best friend?

Animal shelters in the area are operating at full capacity and have lowered fees to encourage people to adopt. Summer is the hardest time for shelters due to increased strays.

Well, there’s hope on the way.

The last quarter of the year historically sees a surge in adoptions. And a new study by WalletHub has named Cleveland the 30th most dog-friendly city in the U.S.

It ranks high in dog-walking amenities (like Lakewood and Edgewater parks), pet costs, health and wellness, but ranks low when it comes to dog parks.

Cleveland is one of four Ohio cities in the top 100 – which includes Cincinnati (3), Columbus (33) and Toledo (73).
