Explore Clevelandโ€™s overlooked architectural gem before it closes

Where there was once a cacophony of chatter and shuffling travelers, there is now eerie silence in one of Clevelandโ€™s most stylish buildings.

The restaurant is closed. Most of the seats are gone. And on Friday, there were as many security guards as there were waiting ridersโ€ฆ two.

The once-bustling Greyhound station is counting down the days until the last bus departs.

โ€œWe thought today might be the last day,โ€ said an employee. โ€œItโ€™s just a matter of time.โ€

You see, both Greyhound and Barons Bus are relocating to a new station next to the RTAโ€™s Brook Park Rapid Station. Originally slated for June, the move has been delayed until the station is completed.

Last year, Playhouse Square purchased the historic jewel with the idea of turning it into a performance space or supper club. ย It was a godsend to preservationists, who feared a developer could undermine its architectural significance by converting it into apartments.

Built in 1948 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999, the station is an immaculate example of Streamline Moderne. The offshoot of Art Deco boasts stylish curves, bold lines and smooth surfaces.

Playhouse Square is looking at ways to best utilize the space, so itโ€™s sitting in a sort of purgatory now. Check it out before itโ€™s too late โ€“ and bring a camera.

Dan and Jennifer Gilbert file for amicable divorce; renew vows to Cleveland, Detroit

Cavs owner Dan Gilbert and his wife Jennifer are getting divorced after 30 years.

"We have together made the difficult decision to end our marriage," the Gilberts said in the statement. "Our journey has been profoundly shaped by our love and devotion to our children โ€” including the enduring memory of our beloved son Nick, in addition to our commitments to Detroit and Cleveland.

Gilbert -- estimated to be worth $29.4 billion โ€“ purchased the Cavaliers in 2005 for a then-record $375 million.

His portfolio of Cleveland holdings includes the Monsters, Charge, a WNBA franchise set to debut in 2028 and $2 billion in real estate in Cuyahoga County.

He has also shaped downtown through Bedrock, his real estate investment firm that acquired the May Co. complex in 2016. Bedrockโ€™s most ambitious Cleveland project is a $3.5 billion plan to redevelop 35 acres of the city's riverfront and renovate Tower City Center.

"As our relationship evolves, our friendship and partnership remain steadfast. In this next chapter, we will continue working on our fight to eliminate neurofibromatosis and uplift the communities we both cherish," the statement continued.

Beloved Italian eatery Stino da Napoli to close after 34 years

Itโ€™s been an popular mainstay for 34 years. The sauces are staples in area groceries. And it boasts a legacy that goes back to Clevelandโ€™s famed New York Spaghetti House and, before that, Italy.

But the end is near for Stino da Napoli. The ย charming Rocky River eatery will serve its last meal on Dec. 20.

โ€œAfter 34 wonderful years, we are announcing our retirement from the restaurant business,โ€ said owners Agostino and Jill Iacullo. โ€œWe are honored to have shared our passion for Neapolitan cuisine with you.โ€

In April, Agostino announced the closure of their retail sauces, which were staples in area groceries.

Iacullo, an Italian immigrant who arrived here in 1979 with $300, cooked in area eateries for 12 years before opening Stino da Napoli.
