Pink Flamingos, Pierogi Drops & Parma Pints: Parma's Bicentennial Party Gets Hoppy

City of Parma
First, there was the Pierogi Drop โ the areaโs biggest NYE spectacle.
Then Paczki Day, which summoned hundreds of people from around the area to wait for Rudyโs Strudel to open at 5 a.m. Tuesday for the pillowy, pre-Lenten pastries.
Now comes the Parma Pint.
The European-style lager from Parmaโs Schnitz Ale Brewery gets its first pour at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Info.
Itโs more than a brewski bash, however.
Call it a sudsy ramp up for a year of bicentennial celebrations for Parma โ which was settled by Benajah Fay in 1816 and was officially designated as a township a decade later.
The city has a lot of other reasons to crack one open.
Long a destination for some of the areaโs top Indian, Korean and Japanese restaurants, Parmaโs dining scene is one of the most diverse in the area with the opening of Ohio Pie and acclaimed South and Central American spots in the last year.
โParma has become cool โ comic book and records stores, ethnic restaurants and bakeries,โ says Mayor Tim Degeeter. โPeople used to make fun of Parmaโs pink flamingos, but we embraced it and adopted it as our official mascot.โ
Shops, irreverence and personality are some of the reasons Parma has attracted Gen Z and Millennial residents.
Thereโs also affordability, which has made it one of the countryโs strongest housing markets.
โThe beer is part of a bigger, story,โ says Degeeter. โThe bicentennial gives us a chance to tell it.โ
Be honest โ when was the last time you hung out in Parma?
From 30-Inch Pies to Game On: Cleveland's City Slice Levels Up with 'Eatertainment' Complex

Photos by John Petkovic
City Slice rolls out the biggest slice youโll find, maybe anywhere.
Now, the St. Clair Avenue pizzeria with the MEGA 30-inch NY-style pies is getting bigger โ with an expansion into a vacant building next door as part of a sprawling โeatertainmentโ complex.
โWeโll have more than 80 video games and, yes, will serve City Slice pizza,โ says chef Eric Roman. โWeโre working on the space every day, fixing it up and getting it ready.โ
Itโs targeted to open in the spring, according to Roman, who is working with City Slice owner Vanessa Reyes on the project.
When it does, the current City Slice spot will transform Into Cleveland Mofongo โ the Puerto Rican-themed West Side restaurant that Roman owned and operated until 2023.
City Slice, which opened eight months ago, also serves the old CM menu.
โWeโll do Cleveland Mofongo here and games and pizza next door,โ says Roman. โThis area is making a comeback and weโre really excited to be a part of it.โ
Could your group realistically finish a 30-inch pizza?
Cavs' Stunning Rebirth: 10-1 Streak, Trades & Hardenโฆ 50 Wins?
Less than a month ago, the Cavs were an exercise in mediocrity โ 24-20 and seventh place in the Eastern Conference.
My, how a 10-1 streak and three trades have changed everything.
Now in fourth and 1 ยฝ games out of second, Cleveland is poised to make its playoff push starting tonight against the lowly Nets.
With 27 games to go, what was once unthinkable looks likely: 50 wins.
The Cavs have the fourth easiest schedule, in a season where bad teams are already tanking for draft picks.
James Harden has elevated Cleveland's offense to elite levels, posting a blistering 126.7 points per 100 possessionsโa pace that would rank No. 1 league-wide over a full season.
Dennis Schrรถder and Keon Ellis have addressed the backcourtโs perimeter defense and secondary creation.
Evan Mobleyโs return from injury is a wildcard: He helps on defense, but will he gel with Jarrett Allen โ who has excelled with Hardenโs passing and playmaking?

Wagginโ Wednesdays to the Rescue: $100 Deal on Adoptions
Itโs been a rough go for area shelters. All of them are operating at full capacity and have soldiered on trying to find homes for animals.
Especially adult dogs, who often wait for months before anyone comes knocking on their cage.
A study by WalletHub has named Cleveland the 30th most dog-friendly city in the U.S. โ and the APL hopes that love will lead to new bonds with Wagginโ Wednesdays.
The promotion takes $100 off for adoptions of dogs five years and older on Wednesdays in February. Info.
